Modifieds Please Lee Crowd On Retro Raceday
Lee, NH - 7/12/25 - Lee USA Speedway was back on Friday night for Retro Raceday, as fans packed the grandstands to celebrate racing’s past and present with vintage displays, classic music, and a full night of on-track action. The Modified Racing Series headlined the show with a 75-lap feature, joined by a strong card of Super Streets, Ridge Runners, Six Shooters, and the always-exciting New England Dwarf Cars.
The ground-pounding Modifieds put on the show fans came for, with some of the region’s best wheelmen battling in a lightning-fast 75-lap main event. Jon McKennedy (#79), a proven star in open-wheel racing, delivered a commanding performance to secure the Retro Raceday win. Behind him, Brett Meservey (#76) fought tooth and nail but settled for a strong runner-up finish, while Brian Robie (#25) rounded out the podium after keeping pace with the leaders. Stu McCormack (#04) and Joey Jarvis (#28) completed the top five in an action-packed race that saw tight battles all the way through the field. Veteran Jefferey Battle (#19) finished sixth, with young talent Jacob Perry (#21) crossing in seventh. Positions eight through ten went to Ryan Doucette (#55), Donnie Lashua (#47), and Andrew Martell (#18). The 75-lapper proved once again that Modifieds remain the backbone of New England short track racing.
The mighty little machines of the New England Dwarf Cars never fail to thrill, and this week it was Tom Harwood (#29) who stole the show. Starting deep in the field, Harwood powered his way forward to score a huge win, climbing eight spots in the process. Cody Hodgdon (#31) charged to second, while Kenny Scott Jr. (#72) came home third after a consistent run. Heat race winner Chris Sullivan (#0NO) grabbed fourth, and Andrew Harmon (#14) rounded out the top five. Other notables included Adam Bousquet (#X07) in sixth, while early contender Miller Buzzell (#18ME) was forced to retire with mechanical trouble.
It was a banner night for Andrew Morin (#30) of Nashua, NH, who swept both the heat and feature in the Super Streets. Morin looked nearly untouchable, holding off a hard-charging Justin Beecher (#57) who gained three positions to finish second. Cam Huntress (#42) crossed third, with Milton Duran (#12) and Donald Belisle (#7) completing the top five. Patrick Tanguay (#79) advanced three spots to finish sixth, while Jason Curtis (#02) was disqualified after initially finishing second in the heat.
The Ridge Runners feature delivered one of the most competitive races of the night. Dwight Souther Jr. (#23) stormed from seventh on the grid to victory lane, showing patience and precision in traffic. Trystin Bodwell (#56) led early and hung on for second, while Stone Slattery (#99) climbed to third in another strong showing. Derek McKeen (#1) and Brian Caswell (#47) rounded out the top five, each battling forward through a stacked field. The race also featured standout drives by Jason Gammon (#X85), who advanced eight positions to finish seventh, and Kyle Dumas (#15), who quietly worked his way into 11th after starting 13th.
In the Six Shooters, Michael Yeaton (#25NH) continued his summer hot streak, winning both his heat and the feature with a smooth and steady drive. Steve Miller Jr. (#79) and Steve Miller (#68) finished second and third, keeping the pressure on Yeaton throughout. Matthew Hurteau (#18) and Thomas Harton (#85) rounded out the top five, while Michael Casey (#57) recovered from heat race struggles to place sixth. Mechanical gremlins ended the night early for Randy Washburn (#49).
Retro Raceday at Lee USA Speedway brought out the spirit of New England racing – from the nostalgia of the vintage cars to the intensity of the night’s feature divisions. Fans were treated to wheel-to-wheel action in every class and a headline Modified Racing Series main event that capped the night in style.
